Editorial by Philippe Piguet

If we had to choose a slogan for this 5th edition of the festival, there would be just one: “the spirit of invention!”. This is the theme of the new edition of the festival, but it is also the best description of Impressionism.

All the festival’s propositions, be they historic or contemporary, share this state of mind. Whether it be in the use of new procedures, the hybridisation of artistic practices, or else the innovative nature of their approach, all the projects fit into this audacious guiding principle.

It was also thanks to their spirit of invention that the Impressionists transformed the world of art. It should not be forgotten that, 150 years ago, the Impressionists shook up all the conventions that existed at the time.

Times are now different, techniques too, but the basic vectors remain: artists need to be fully part of their period and it is up to the festival to be open to all the disciplines, as a marker of post-modernity, and with the assurance of the added value of prospection.
