Day 1: Le Havre
▶Set off to discover this seaside town with its unique charm, a UNESCO world heritage site, whose unique light was a source of inspiration for such artists as Claude Monet and Auguste Perret.
▶Look out to sea, just where Monet painted Impression, Sunrise, then head to the MuMa - Musée d'art moderne André Malraux to discover not only one of the most prestigious Impressionist collections in France, but also its exhibition Photography in Normandy (1840-1890) - A pioneer dialogue between the arts.
To chime with this visit, visit the Théâtre de l’Hôtel de Ville and the abstract photographs in the exhibition Photosensible at the FRAC, before exploring the organic world of Bianca Bondi at Le Portique.
Day 2: Sainte-Adresse
▶Departure for Sainte-Adresse the holiday resort of the residents of Le Havre in the 18th century, where Monet set up home in 1867 to paint a series of canvases such as Garden at Sainte-Adresse or Women in the Garden. Visit the Jardins Suspendus which offer a superb panorama of Le Havre and the sea.
▶In May, take part in indoor and outdoor choreographic experiences with the company Shifts – art in movement and its Odyssées Impressionnistes from 17th to 28th or else the Volcanic Voyages of Compagnie XY from 28th May to 1st June in the streets of Le Havre. After nightfall, come and see an original luminous scenography projected onto Le Volcan by Caty Olive (24th to 26th May only).
